The Nigeria Red Cross Society, in collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), has extended vital support to 7,300 women-led households across three local government areas in Zamfara State—Gusau, Shinkafi, and Tsafe.

During a distribution event held in Gusau on Monday, the Secretary General of the Nigeria Red Cross, Abubakar Kyande, stated that the initiative was part of a broader effort to assist vulnerable communities facing serious challenges in education, healthcare, and food security.

Kyande explained that cash assistance ranging from N28,000 to N114,000 was provided to each household, with amounts adjusted based on family size and individual needs.

“This initiative targets the most vulnerable members of the community, including women-led families, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable children,” he stated.

He added that the selection of beneficiaries was carried out in partnership with community and religious leaders, as well as local authorities, to ensure fairness and inclusivity in the distribution process.

Expressing concern over the ongoing insecurity and economic hardship in Zamfara, Kyande urged government bodies, non-governmental organisations, and philanthropic individuals to contribute to ongoing relief efforts.

“At present, our support covers only three local government areas. However, we are extending a hand of friendship to all stakeholders to assist vulnerable children and families in other parts of the state,” he appealed.

This intervention is part of a continued humanitarian response aimed at reducing the adverse effects of conflict, displacement, and poverty on communities in Northern Nigeria.
