Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike on Tuesday passionately articulated his vision for accelerating economic growth and job creation through robust infrastructure development and streamlined bureaucratic processes.
During remarks at the commissioning of a newly constructed carriageway in Abuja, Wike opened by commending President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to project completion, emphasising the significance of Abuja’s industrial sector.
He recounted a visit to an industrial park in March where he observed businesses struggling due to the absence of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), which created a climate of uncertainty.
“For years, they have had no C of O to assure them that they can continue with the job,” Wike stated, highlighting how this lack of assurance acted as a significant barrier to investment and expansion.
Upon identifying this critical impediment, Wike promptly ordered the issuance of the C of O, a directive that was implemented within two weeks.

He confidently projected the positive impact of this intervention, encouraging the president to visit the site personally.
“Today, go to that place, Mr. President. I will encourage you that it will create not less than 40,000 direct jobs,” Wike affirmed, underscoring the substantial employment opportunities that arise when businesses feel secure. He added that with continued government support, many existing problems at the industrial park could be resolved.
The minister also noted that a company, keen to expand the industrial base, has applied to complete the left-hand side of the development. This project, while contingent on tax concessions, has had its details submitted to the Ministry of Finance, with Wike expressing optimism for a swift resolution.
He stressed that projects of this nature warrant immediate and unwavering support.
Wike further lamented the operational challenges faced by contractors, specifically mentioning difficulties in obtaining approval to cross rail lines for project completion.
He urged the President to experience the route firsthand, suggesting a drive through the newly commissioned road to Zuba Road and back to Abuja.
Wike concluded his address by reiterating a fundamental principle of economic development.
“Road infrastructure is the driver of any economic growth. Investors will come when there are roads. If there are no roads, no investor will come because their duty is not to come and do roads for you; you are to provide the basic infrastructure.”
His remarks underscored a clear commitment to removing obstacles and fostering an environment conducive to investment and prosperity in the FCT.
