Central banks play a critical role in combatting counterfeiting by embedding a wide array of advanced security features into banknotes, making it both difficult and costly to produce counterfeit currencies. The ongoing battle against counterfeit money requires continuous innovation in the security measures incorporated into currency denominations.

Fortunately, many central banks worldwide are staying ahead of the curve in this effort. A key defense against counterfeiting is the material used to print the notes. Unlike ordinary paper, traditional banknotes are produced from a unique blend of cotton and linen fibres, giving them a distinctive texture that sets them apart.

In addition to the physical properties of the notes, modern security features include high-tech options like holographic patches and strips. These elements often feature dynamic images that shift or appear to move when the note is tilted. Some contemporary banknotes also include 3D security ribbons, which display different images depending on the viewing angle.

As highlighted by Bestbrokers, a platform designed to assist traders in making informed decisions when selecting trading platforms, the need for enhanced currency security has become more urgent as currency counterfeiting costs the global economy millions of dollars each year. To counter this threat, central banks have increasingly relied on innovative measures such as holograms, hidden images, microprints, and color-shifting inks, all designed to deter even the most skilled counterfeiters.

However, not all currencies are equally protected. Bestbrokers conducted a comprehensive security ranking of the world’s most traded currencies to evaluate their vulnerability to counterfeiting. By examining the 39 most widely traded currencies in 2022, experts identified the highest-circulating banknotes in each country for 2023 and ranked them based on the security measures they employed. Additionally, they assessed how many counterfeit bills were circulating per million legitimate notes in each country.

With that said, here are the most secured banknotes in the world, according to BestBrokers report.
