Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has given the go-ahead for the recruitment of 267 health workers to reinforce staffing in hospitals and clinics across the state.
Mamman Mohammed, who heads Press and Media Affairs for the Governor, shared this update with reporters in Damaturu on Monday.
Among the recruits are 140 Buni Scholars—students who recently completed their studies in various medical science disciplines in India.
The group includes: 43 graduates in Nursing, 43 in Pharmacy, 22 in Medical Laboratory Science, 24 in Radiology, 7 in Optometry, and 1 in Public Health.
Alongside them, 127 health technicians who had been volunteering in state medical facilities have also been formally employed.
“The Governor directed the employment of medical technicians who graduated earlier but had only been serving as volunteers in medical centres.

“The Buni Scholars have been placed on CONHESS 8, while the volunteer technicians were placed on CONHESS 6/2,” Mr Mohammed explained.
He stated that for the past five years, Governor Buni’s administration has ensured automatic job placements for graduates of Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery.
To make healthcare more accessible, the government has set up primary healthcare centres across various wards in the state. Several major upgrades have also been carried out, including:
– Elevating General Hospitals in Gashua, Potiskum, Geidam, and Buni Yadi to Specialist Hospital status.
– Upgrading eight Primary Healthcare Centres into fully-fledged General Hospitals.
– Equipping the State Teaching Hospital with advanced medical technology to enhance service quality and affordability.
These efforts reflect the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the healthcare system and ensuring that residents receive better medical attention.
