The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has approved ₦50 billion for the provision of potable water in Abuja’s satellite towns.
While parts of Kubwa—Abuja’s largest suburban town—Bwari, Gwagwalada, and a few others have public water supply, many satellite areas still rely on private water initiatives.
Speaking in Kuje town during the commissioning of the reconstructed 5-kilometer Garage–LEA Secretariat Road, Wike emphasized the president’s commitment to improving the lives of FCT residents. The road project, which commenced in February last year, includes 162 solar-powered streetlights.
Wike stated: “If you see our national budget which Mr. President has submitted to the National Assembly, sometime last year, we went to China, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a company called CGC to provide water to the satellite towns, and one of the area councils is Kuje Area Council.
“So, in this year’s budget, Mr. President has provided the sum of ₦50 billion to provide water for the satellite towns, of which Kuje will be a beneficiary.”
He highlighted that the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on all Nigerians, regardless of party affiliation.
“I can assure you that with your continuous support, you will get more things in Kuje. Mr. Chairman, it has nothing to do with the party, it has to do with your people. Party is a vehicle that conveys you, when you get to where you are heading to, you come down. Tinubu’s administration is not about the party. It is about Nigerians—changing the lives of Nigerians, and that is what we are doing here,” Wike said.
The minister further revealed the president’s approval for the construction of the Pegi Road and the Kuje-Gwagwalada link road, which will extend from the LEA Secretariat. He also noted that the ongoing construction of the Airport–Kuje link road would be completed on schedule.
“By May, when Mr. President will have clocked two years in office, we are going to show the world what we have done, what Mr. President has done for FCT as he clocks two years in office. So, we are ready to satisfy you, to let you know that we owe you that duty, to explain to you, money being raised, what we are using it for. It’s for the people of FCT, for the satellite towns.
“We will develop satellite towns to the point that you will no longer be interested in leaving your communities to come to the city to live,” he added.
In his remarks, Kuje Area Council Chairman, Mr. Abdullahi Sabo, praised Wike for allocating significant resources to the development of FCT’s area councils. He noted that Wike’s vision for transforming satellite towns was taking shape, with Kuje benefiting from key infrastructure upgrades.
