Athletics South Africa names team for IAAF World Relays

Athletics South Africa (ASA) has named a 22-member final team for the IAAF World Relays to be held in Yokohama, Japan.

The national team, will consist of 14 men and 8 women, and will compete in the men’s and women’s 4x100m events, as well as the men’s 4x200m and men’s 4x400m as well as the mixed 4x400m.

The men’s 4x100m squad, will feature SA record holder Akani Simbine, Simon Magakwe, Anaso Jobodwana and Emile Erasmus.

Simbine and Jobodwana will lead the 4x200m team, and Gardeo Isaacs will lead the men’s 4x400m squad.

The women’s 4x100m team, will feature Carina Horn, Tebogo Mamatu and hurdler Rikenette Steenkamp.

ASA President, Aleck Skhosana believes he has brought together the strongest athletes from the country;

“We have assembled the strongest squad possible to contest the podium finishes in our first participation. ASA is confident that each individual knows what’s at stake and fly the flag high,” Skhosana said.

The IAAF World Relays will hold between May 11-12, 2019.
