Five time world champions Nigeria are back in action in matchday three of the 2019 CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations. The Golden Eaglets beat hosts Tanzania 5-4 in a thrilling Group A encounter in the opening match of the competition.
They will be seeking another three points today when they take Angola at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam in their second match, in a battle of the top two teams.
Angola earned a one nil win over Uganda in their opener. Victory for either team will most likely ensure a top two finish. The top two teams of each group will advance to the semi-finals and qualify for the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be hosted by Brazil.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of the match Golden Eaglets coach Manu Garba expressed his confidence that his team would emerge victorious. “Half of the boys in my team have not been on a plane before,” he said. “They are inexperienced but we will take each game as it comes and ahead of the game against Angola, the team will be better and win.”
Wednesday’s other match in Group A, will see hosts Tanzania take on Uganda in a match of two teams still looking for their first points at the tournament.
