Nigerian Army troops operating in Benue State have been attacked, again, by unknown gunmen. 10 soldiers and an officer while on routine operational task have been killed.
Giving more details about the attack, Army spokesperson, General Yerima, stated that the troops comprising one officer and ten soldiers had been initially declared missing prompting the deployment of a joint search and rescue team by NA troops and Operation Whirl Stroke team.
The missing troops were found dead in Konshisha LGA of Benue State by search and rescue team, their bodies have since been evacuated.
Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom last month reported that he escaped an attack by armed herders while inspecting his farm.
Benue is in the middle belt region, where gangs have taken up arms after years of communal clashes between herders and farmers.
Deadly clashes between nomadic Fulani herders and farmers over land, grazing, and water have plagued central parts of Nigeria for years.
The army say efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators of the heinous crime so as to bring them to justice.
