It is no longer news that former aviation minister Hadi Sirika, his daughter and two others were arraigned before the Abuja High Court on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
Here are key points to note about Sirika’s re-arraignment.
1. Hadi Sirika, his daughter Fatimah, and two others are facing charges linked to an alleged N2.7 billion contract fraud during his tenure. The accusations revolve around the misuse of their positions to divert N2.7 billion.
2. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought charges against Sirika and his daughter, Fatima, before Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Maitama on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
3. Also indicted were Jalal Hamma and Al-Duraq Investment Ltd, accused of misusing their authority to the tune of N2.7 billion.
4. Allegedly, Sirika leveraged his role as Minister of Aviation to unlawfully award contracts to his daughter, son-in-law, and associates.
5. Hadi Sirika, his daughter, Jalal Hamma and Al-Duraq Investment Ltd were granted ₦100m bail each by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
9. The court stipulated that two sureties with landed properties in Abuja must stand for them and depose to an affidavit of means.
10. They are prohibited from travelling abroad without court permission, as ordered by Justice Oriji.
11. Failure to meet bail conditions will result in remand in prison custody.
12. Economic and Financial Crimes Commission counsel Rotimi Jacob confirmed the trial dates set for June 10, 11, and 20.
