At least 12 people were killed in a clash between vigilantes and bandits in the Zak community of Plateau State‘s Wase Local Government Area.
Nine bandits and three vigilantes were killed during the clash, according to Shapi’i Sambo, a youth leader in Wase who confirmed the most recent development. He told newsmen that it happened at 9am on Sunday.
The incident was also confirmed by Major Ishaku Takwa, the spokesperson for Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), a multi-security unit responsible for preserving the state’s calm, but he was unable to determine the number of casualties.
He claimed that after repelling the assault, the security personnel headed to the Gajin Bashar neighborhood to battle bandits who had also overrun the region.
It should be recalled that News Central reported that bandits gave quit notices to residents of Sabon Zama, Gindin Dutse, Anguwan Tsohon Soldier, Anguwan Yuhana and Anguwan Mangu villages of Wase to vacate their areas or face a war.
This prompted residents of the affected areas to flee to Wase town for fear of attack.
This is coming days after Reverend James Kantoma, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (Plateau State) was been kidnapped by gunmen.
