Thirteen suspected Boko Haram terrorists were detained after they attempted to attack a military base at Wawa in the Borgu local government area of Niger State.
According to information obtained by News Central, nine of them were apprehended while attempting to cross the border between Nigeria and the Benin Republic: six at a farm in Wawa, two in the town of Wawa, and five at Gada Oli outside of the town.
After the attack on the military cantonment in Wawa on Saturday, it was discovered that the security officers were also pursuing them between Mokwa and New Bussa.
According to a source at the Borgu Emirate Council, the emirate alerted vulnerable communities to be watchful and provide helpful information to security personnel so they might catch fleeing members of the insurgents.
Last Saturday during the intended attack on the cantonment, the military fought the group, killing eight people and taking three commanders into custody; nevertheless, some of the members fled in other directions as a result of the military’s intense military activity from the Air Force Base New Bussa.
The Emirates Council held a security meeting today, Monday, October 31, 2022, and decided that there will be a curfew, meaning that movement will be permitted from 6am to 9pm, effective as of this evening. This follows the terrorist attack on the Wawa Military Barrack, which was followed by unrest in some of our communities.
This is coming one week after ISWAP members attacked a Boko Haram enclave, continuing what appeared to be their ongoing rivalry conflict. Six of them were reportedly killed in the raid.
ISWAP had quietly invaded the Boko Haram terrorists’ residence in Gajibo, a hamlet 95 kilometres northeast of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, and killed six people they deemed to be “infidels.”
