14 Die as Two Migrant Boats Sink Off Tunisian Coastline

At least fourteen people were found dead after two migrant boats sank off Tunisia in attempts to cross the Mediterranean Sea to the Italian Island of Lampedusa.

According to officials in the North African country, at least 139 people were rescued while search operations were ongoing to save more people.

The coastline in Sfax has been a major exit point for migrants seeking greener pastures in Europe or fleeing from wars in their countries.

At least three incidents involving boats capsizing in the Mediterranean have occurred recently, as many Africans attempt to flee poverty in their countries.

The majority of these migrants are usually Sub-Saharan Africans, who are usually misled to get to Europe through crooked means.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and countries usually affected have gone on a number of educating programmes to speak to victims and potential victims on the perils of travelling through such dangerous routes.
