According to a senior official with the state-owned Sudanese Mineral Resources Corporation, 14 miners have killed and more than 20 have been hurt in a mine collapse in Sudan’s Northern state.

A mountaintop near the al Jabal al Ahmar mine, which is 70 kilometres from Wadi Halfa city, partially fell on Thursday, resulting in the fatal tragedy.

Witnesses claimed that miners were using large machinery to dig for gold, which is what actually caused the fall.

After several hours of digging by community members, eight of them were rescued by the morning. According to the authorities, the unlicensed miners were operating at an aged mining tunnel.
