The 14th Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II arrived in Niamey Wednesday to deliberate with the leader of Niger Republic’s Military Junta, General Abdourahamane Tchani on the situation in the country.
Sanusi who was accompanied to Niamey, the capital of Niger Republic by some of his closest associates and staff, was warmly received by the new military junta.
This is after the junta aborted a meeting with representatives of the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), and a top US diplomat.
He met the Junta leaders in company of the Sultan of Damagaran,Damagaran is the third largest city in Niger.
It is not clear in what capacity Sanusi II embarked on the trip to Niger, which is currently having a running battle with the West African bloc and has severed diplomatic relations with Nigeria.
ECOWAS leaders are scheduled to meet on Thursday for the next line of actions after the seven-day deadline given to the coup leaders elapsed.
