Seven of the twenty-four members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly suspended sixteen members on Monday after threatening to impeach Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki on Thursday.
They accused the members of breaking into the clerk of the house and sergeant at arms’ offices, as well as destroying property at the Assembly Complex.
The House, led by Speaker Moriki, ruled last Thursday’s legislative session unlawful.
They advised residents of the North-West state to disregard widespread claims that the speaker was suspended.
The lawmakers also accused some top politicians from other states of funding them in order to damage Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration.
Eighteen members, led by what they termed as Speaker Pro-Tempo, suspended Moriki last Thursday due to his protracted absence from the state, which coincided with the revival of bandit activity throughout the state.
