At least seventeen people have been arraigned over the attack on the chopper carrying Kenyan Presidential hopeful, Raila Odinga.
Odinga was attacked in Samitui farm in Kabenes, Uasin Gishu County.
The seventeen were implicated for stoning the helicopter carrying the Azimio candidate. The incident occurred at the late Mzee Jackson Kibor’s Samitui farm, shortly after the burial of the political stalwart.
Some of the charges levelled against the seventeen people include; attempted murder, incitement to violence, disturbance of peace and malicious damage to property.
The court session took place at Eldoret on Monday, and the prosecution has called for the remand of all 17 people for two weeks in order to ensure the investigation is completed.
The attack on Odinga has been condemned widely in Kenya.
Two Members of Parliament and the Speaker of a County Assembly have been arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for masterminding the attack on Odinga.
The DCI said the three individuals have been found to be the brains behind the attack as they were called for questioning on Sunday.
Soi MP Caleb Kositany alongside his Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi and Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker David Kiplagatwere summoned for questioning at the Rift Valley DCI headquarters in Nakuru.
The youths who stoned Odinga’s helicopter were allegedly incited by the lawmakers.
Odinga had escaped unscathed after a chopper crash in 2021. The chopper crashed shortly after dropping the Presidential candidate off.
