18 Die As Benin Republic-bound Party Goers Die In Auto Crash

Tragedy struck as a group of individuals suspected to be party-goers en route to Benin Republic lost their lives in a devastating auto crash on Sunday. The accident occurred on the Lagos-Badagry expressway when the bus carrying them collided with a stationary truck. The unfortunate incident claimed the lives of 18 passengers, along with the bus driver and conductor.

The passengers had chartered the bus from Lagos State’s Yaba area to attend a group party in the neighboring Benin Republic. However, their journey took a tragic turn at around 9 am near Age-Mowo, close to Mowo along the expressway. It was there that the collision took place, leading to the loss of numerous lives.

According to Taofiq Adebayo, spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident involved a Mazda commercial bus carrying passengers and a truck loaded with sand. The driver of the bus reportedly lost control of the vehicle while attempting to overtake the stationary tipper truck. This fateful moment resulted in the deaths of 18 passengers, the bus driver, and his conductor.

In the aftermath of the accident, the remains of the victims were taken to the morgue at Badagary General Hospital.
