18 Now the Minimum Age for Entry into Nigerian Universities

On Thursday, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced that the minimum age for securing admissions into the country’s tertiary institutions is now 18.

Speaking at the annual policy meeting of Mamman of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Mamman said, “JAMB is hereby notified that there is now a ban on underaged students, those under the age of 18 into our tertiary institutions from this 2024 admissions.”

Mamman’s announcement prompted a noticeable murmur from the audience. He encouraged anyone unhappy with the decision, noting that it was within the bounds of the law, to take their concerns to the National Assembly and request a modification.
