188 Journalists Killed in Gaza Since Israeli Onslaught in October 2023

The media office in Gaza has reported that 188 journalists have lost their lives due to Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.

In its latest update, the office confirmed that four more journalists, including Al-Zahraa and Ahmed Abu Sukheil from the News Media Network, were killed in an airstrike on a Gaza City school used as a shelter. Another two journalists, Mustafa and Abdulrahman Bahar of Ajel Palestine, were identified as having been killed in separate incidents near Gaza City.

The office condemned the targeting of Palestinian journalists and called on the global community to pressure Israel into protecting media personnel. Gaza-based journalists face particularly high risks due to intense airstrikes, mass displacement, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, this year’s conflict in Gaza has resulted in the highest number of journalist fatalities in any conflict in the last three decades. Additionally, the enclave’s deteriorating conditions have sparked widespread condemnation, with the International Court of Justice reviewing potential charges of genocide in the region.
