19 Politicians Prosecuted for Electoral Crimes in Tunisia

A total of 19 Politicians were referred to the Correctional Chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance for electoral crimes.

The list included Rached Ghannouchi, president of Tunisia’s Ennahdha Party, Moncef Marzouki, ex-president of Tunisia from 2011 to 2014, Youssef Chahed, former prime minister from 2016 to 2020, in addition to other political personalities.

Reports say they are all being prosecuted for political advertising, illegal advertising via social media and violation of electoral silence in accordance with Articles 57, 69, 154 and 155 of the Organic Law on elections and referendums.
