Officials in Moscow and Kyiv have confirmed the exchange of 95 captured soldiers in the latest prisoners of war swap between the two countries.
“We continue to bring our people home. Another 95 defenders have been released from Russian captivity,” Zelenskyy said, adding that the United Arab Emirates acted as the mediator.
Since February 2022, over 50 separate exchanges during the war have led to the liberation of thousands of captured soldiers. Prisoner exchanges are the only points of agreement between the two countries that have been at war for over two years.
Russian President Vladimir Putin disclosed last month that almost 1,400 Russian soldiers were being held in Ukraine and that Russia had detained over 6,400 Ukrainian prisoners of war.
Kyiv has alleged that Russia forcibly deported numerous Ukrainian children from the area under Moscow’s control and is currently taking steps to ensure their safe return. Moscow insists children were moved for their protection.
