Popular singer and business mogul, Akon has reportedly finalized agreements for the establishment of his futuristic Akon City in his home country, Senegal.
The Senegalese-American singer announced the finalization of the agreements for this self-named renewable city with a focus on solar energy.
“Just finalized the agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal. Looking forward to hosting you there in the future” he shared alongside a photo showcasing what appears to be the signed documents.
In an interview with Nick Canon back in December, Akon revealed that “It’s a 10-year building block so we’re doing it in stages. We started construction in March and stage two is going to be 2025.”
The city which sits on a 2,000-acre piece of land gifted by Senegal’s President Macky Sall is expected to trade exclusively in digital cash dubbed AKoin. According to the singer, this would help Africans become less dependent on their governments.
