Mali’s Sissoko calls time on football career

Former Mali international midfielder Mohammed Sissoko has called time on his football career.

The ex-Liverpool and Juventus player who will clock 35 on January 22, last featured for Sochaux in the French second-tier last season.

Sissoko started his career in France and had an illustrious career in Europe with Valencia, PSG, Liverpool and Juventus before he moved to the Far East and The Americas.

Speaking to French television channel RMC Sport, Sissoko said;

“If I am here this evening, it is to tell you that it is the end for me,”

“I stop my career. It is a decision really difficult to take and to say.”

Momo as he was fondly called, played for 14 clubs throughout his career, including stints in Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, China, and Mexico.

Sissoko featured for 14 clubs including European sides Liverpool, Valencia, PSG, Juventus, Fiorentina and Livante and won seven trophies.

Sissoko won the La liga title, the UEFA Cup [ now defunct], and the European Super Cup while with Valencia.

After moving to the English Premier League to join Liverpool from Valencia, he won the FA Cup and another European Super Cup.

Momo then moved to Italian side, Juventus and also won the French Ligue 1 title with Paris St. Germain.

Sissoko played for Mali 33 times, scoring two goals, and helped the Eagles finish third at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. He made for Mali in 2004 and played at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in – 2004, 2008, 2010 and 2013.
