After a 7-6 (10-8) 6-0 second round win over Kaia Kanepi of Estonia, Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur will face American and world number four Sofia Kenin in third round at this year US Open in New York.
On Thursday, the 28-year-old Jabeur was stretched in the first set which went into a tie-breaker, but the world number 31 and 27th seed eased through the second set to dispatch her opponent 6-0.
Second seed Kenin recorded a straight sets 6-4 6-3 win against Canadian Leylah Annie Fernandez.
Both players met in the quarter-finals at this year’s Australian Open in January, where the 21-year-old Kenin won 6-4 6-4, eventually going on to win the tournament in Melbourne.
This will be the sixth meeting between Jabeur and Kenin with the American leading 4-1, having first played each other in 2016 on the ITF circuit, with Jabeur’s only win in 2017 on clay.
