Mane, Salah Miss Out on FIFA The Best Award

Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Egyptian, Mohammed Salah have both missed out on FIFA The Best awards for the Men’s Player of the Year.

The Liverpool duo were part of an initial list of 25 nominees released by the world football governing body.

The list also includes Kylian Mbappe, Virgil Van Dijk, Sergio Ramos, Kevin De Bruyne, Neymar and others.

Both Liverpool players had stellar seasons in 2020 as the Reds finished top of the Premier League for the first time in three decades.

Regular entrants, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were joined by favourite, Robert Lewandowski as the three final nominees for the award.

All across FIFA’s final nominations, there is no African in the final selection for the awards.

In the Women’s Player of the Year final nomination, the trio of Lucy Bronze (England / Olympique Lyonnais / Manchester City WFC), Pernille Harder (Denmark / VfL Wolfsburg / Chelsea FC Women) and Wendie Renard (France / Olympique Lyonnais) made the final list, while Jans Oblak, Allison Becker and Manuel Neuer were nominees for goalkeeper of the year.

Leeds United’s Argentine coach, Marcelo Bielsa and German managers, Jurgen Klopp and Hans Dieter-Flick of Liverpool and Bayern Munich respectively were the final nominees for the FIFA Coach of the Year.
