Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has requested the relocation of the United States of America’s Africa Command from Stuttgart, Germany to a place closer to the theatre of operations.
In a virtual meeting with Antony Blinken, the United States Secretary of State, the President said there are troubled regions in Africa and it will be beneficial to the continent to have its Africa Command closer.
The Gulf of Guinea region, the Lake Chad Basin, West, Central and East Africa all currently face numerous security challenges.
Buhari commends the United States’ government for its support to African countries and reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to playing its role in ensuring better control on climate change.
Buhari and four other African leaders were recently in a meeting with U.S. President, Joe Biden where they committed to effecting a better approach to climate challenges.
Other than climate change challenges, the African continent is also deeply affected by these security problems that have made Nigeria a hotspot for kidnappers, terrorists and the so-called bandits.
