Halima Cisse Births 9 babies

A 25-year-old Malian woman, Halima Cisse was delivered of nonuplets in Morocco on Tuesday. Moroccan medics and Malian government officials say all nine babies are in good condition.      

Halima Cisse who was initially believed to have been carrying septuplets got flown to Morocco on March 30 by officials of government –for better care of the rare case.

A woman gave birth to eight babies in the US in 2009 and held the Guinness World Record for the most children delivered at a single birth to survive.

Moroccan health ministry spokesman Rachid Koudhari said he was yet to confirm such multiple births have taken place in one of the country’s hospitals.

Mali’s Health Minister Fanta Siby said in a statement that Cisse had given birth to five girls and four boys by caesarean section.

“The mother and babies are doing well so far,” adding that she had been kept informed by the Malian doctor who accompanied Cisse to Morocco.  

Local press report that Doctors are concerned about Cisse’s health as well as her babies’ chances of survival.

Mali’s health ministry said in a statement that ultrasound examinations conducted in both Mali and Morocco had suggested that Cisse was carrying seven babies.

Siby congratulated the medical teams of Mali and Morocco, “whose professionalism is at the origin of the happy outcome of this pregnancy.”
