Egypt reported 65 Covid-19 deaths on Sunday, the most since 66 Covid-19 deaths were reported on 8 May 2021.

The total number of deaths caused by the virus reached 19,076.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry reported 909 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of cases to 337,485 since the outbreak of the pandemic in Egypt in February 2020.

According to the Ministry, 711 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 283,225.

The fourth wave of the virus has hit full force in the country, with daily cases tenfold higher than at the end of July.

According to the Health Ministry, these numbers represent only 10 per cent of actual cases.

Last month, the government estimated that Egypt had administered 35 million doses of the Coronavirus vaccine, costing $400 million. All types of vaccines have been provided by Egypt in order to combat the pandemic.

Egypt’s vaccination campaign began in January with priority groups, then expanded to university students.

Egyptian officials aim to reach 40 million people by September with double vaccinations.

Early in November, the ministry of health and population launched an app, called Egypt Health Passport for Android and iPhone, to serve as an e-health passport at airports as an alternative to paper certificates providing coronavirus vaccination.

The application is equipped with a QR code that serves as a medical passport and shows whether the person has received the vaccine.

Throughout the world and locally in Egypt, the code can be read in all airports and it shows the type of vaccine the traveller has received.

The ministry explained that every traveller will need to register their information on the application, which can then identify their approved vaccination status.
