Anti-Coup Protests Get Bloodier in Sudan (News Central TV)

Anti-coup demonstrations in Sudan got bloodier on Thursday after authorities fired at anti-coup protesters killing three. Thousands of protesters hit the major streets once again to express their distaste at a military takeover in October 2021.

Many protesters in Khartoum were wounded and struggling to breathe due to the heavy firing of tear gas.

In Omdurman, the twin city of Khartoum, two anti-coup protesters were killed, while in the Sudanese capital’s district of Bahri, one demonstrator was killed, according to activist Nazim Sirag and the Sudan Doctors Committee.

Sudan’s Prime minister Abdalla Hamdok resigned amid political deadlock and widespread pro-democracy protests

Sirag said one of the fatalities in Omdurman was a man who was shot in the head and died before reaching the hospital. Many others were severely wounded.

Authorities have regularly denied using live ammunition against teeming protesters. Their deaths came a day after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken appealed  to Sudanese security forces to “cease using lethal force against demonstrators & commit to an independent investigation.”

At least 60 people have died and many more injured since the crackdowns on demonstrations since an October coup. Protesters insist they will not back down until democracy is fully restored.
