Militants Kill Two Malian Troops, Two UN Peacekeepers (News Central TV)

At least two Malian troops and two UN peacekeepers were killed in separate strikes on Monday, according to the Army and the UN mission in Mali.

Recall that Militants attacked Malian forces in Gao’s northern district early Sunday, leaving at least 27 soldiers dead and 32 injured.

Reports say a convoy belonging to the UN peacekeeping mission MINUSMA hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) north of the central city of Mopti.

It was gathered that the blast killed two peacekeepers and wounded four others.

Mali has been fighting an Islamist insurgency for a decade, with al Qaeda and Islamic State-linked organizations expanding their grip in recent years despite the deployment of French forces and some 13,000 UN peacekeepers.

Since 2013, more than 250 MINUSMA personnel have been killed, making it the worst of more than a dozen UN peacekeeping missions throughout the world.

Following a deterioration in relations with Mali’s ruling military junta, France announced last month that it will halt its counter-terrorism mission in the West African country.

Recall, in December 2021, News Central TV reported that four Malian troops were killed and several injured when their patrol was ambushed by suspected militants in western Mali.
