Babiker Faisal, a prominent Sudanese politician, has been arrested, the latest in a string of arrests since the fall of a power-sharing government in October.
Before the coup, Faisal, a member of the civilian coalition Forces of Freedom and Change (FFC), was part of a committee tasked with dismantling Omar al-administration Bashir’s and seizing assets seized during his reign.
Recall that the long-time leader was overthrown after mass protests in April 2019.
Several other committee members have already been detained on allegations of corruption.
On Monday, security agents stormed the offices of another independent committee that was investigating the shooting dead of more than 100 demonstrators in June 2019.
Sudan’s military rulers, according to reports, look to be undoing most of the changes implemented after Bashir’s fall.
Hundreds of anti-military demonstrators have been killed by security forces in recent months, with hundreds more injured, in an ongoing wave of anti-coup agitations that has swept the country since the military takeover.
