Buhari Summons Minister over Poor Power Supply


Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has on Monday summoned the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu over the state of the nation’s power supply.

Buhari who was in the United Kingdom for two weeks summoned the Minister on his arrival, to have a discussion over the power sector.

His Spokesperson, Garba Shehu revealed this in a statement on Monday.

Buhari also invited the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma over the attacks by some gunmen and a spate of violence in the state.

There were destruction of buildings and other assets in the state including the Police’s. The home of Prof. George Obiozor, President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo was also attacked.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has summoned Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, the Minister of Power, Abubakar Aliyu, and the Chief Economic Adviser, Prof Doyin Salami, to a meeting at the Presidential Villa on Monday afternoon,” the statement said.

“The President is scheduled to meet separately with them and he would be apprised of the latest developments in Imo State, the power sector and the state of the economy.

“It would be recalled that the President while condemning the spate of violence in Imo State in the aftermath of the destruction of buildings and assets of the Police and the home of Prof. George Obiozor, President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, pledged to review the security situation in southeast Nigeria.

“President Buhari has also voiced his concern over the frequent power outages, apologising to Nigerians and assuring a quick relief to the situation,” the statement read.

Nigeria’s national grid collapsed again last week as the nation was thrown in a blackout. The nation’s generation capacity was much lower than what it had to distribute, leading to a collapse of the nation’s grid.

Nigerians have also complained about heightening power charges which are not commensurate to the quality of supply.
