Local sources on Saturday, revealed that about 20 civilians were killed in an attack on a gold mine in Burkina Faso’s restive North.
One of the locals who witnessed the incident, said “dozens of armed men on motorcycles attacked the gold mine in Kougdiguin” at night, between Thursday to Friday in the Namentenga province.

Sources have stated that about 20 persons have died in the Kougdiguin attack, and an equal number of people wounded and undergoing treatment; women and children included.
There have been similar attacks in the past weeks, with nearly 80 people losing their lives. The attacks have been blamed on insurgents affiliated to al-Qaeda.
Burkina Faso’s junta leader has announced that plans are in the pipeline to set up local committees to seek dialogue with the suspected armed militant groups to help restore peace and tranquility in the country.
