Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, revealed that, of the total number of voters who registered in 2021, 45 per cent were discovered to be invalid.
The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, during a media conference in Abuja, said only 1,390,519 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been found to be valid.
“This is a challenging development,” he said, adding that the affected persons may have to re-register, to be able to participate in the 2023 general elections.
Yakubu, the Chairman expressed his concerns over issues of security in the upcoming elections.
“We are all concerned about the security challenges. But the environment must be secured for INEC to conduct the election. We are liaising with the security agencies to secure the environment for us to Conduct the 2023 elections,” he said.
