At least 25 people were killed and dozens more injured In a tragic accident early on Monday on the Dangwaro Flyover along Kano-Zaria Road, officials say.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS1.2 Kano Sector Commander Ibrahim Abdullahi confirmed the tragic incident, which reportedly occurred around 3:30 a.m.
The accident involved an Iveco trailer with registration number KMC 311 ZB, which reportedly lost control due to overspeeding. The trailer was carrying 90 individuals, resulting in significant casualties and injuries. Twelve people were rescued unhurt.
Abdullahi said, “Preliminary investigations suggest that the probable cause of the crash was overspeeding and loss of control by the trailer driver.”
Promptly after the incident, the FRSC swiftly commenced rescue operations with the support of policemen and other emergency response agencies.
Several Items were recovered from the scene, including motorcycles, mobile phones, animals, and crops.
Following the incident, Sector Commander Ibrahim Abdullahi warned drivers and motorists, “transporting animals, goods, and human beings concurrently is an unsafe practice that not only endangers lives but also contravenes traffic regulations designed to ensure road safety.”
The FRSC urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic laws and regulations to prevent further tragedies on Nigerian roads.
