250 Admitted After Scabies Outbreak in Eastern Uganda (News Central TV)

Health authorities in Uganda are battling an outbreak of the skin condition scabies has affected about 250 people in villages adjoining the shores of Lake Lemwa.

Head of health services in Pallisa district, Geoffrey Mulekwa, said those affected by the scabies were from fishing villages in Kasodo and Oloki areas.

The scabies condition, which manifests with severe itching, has left more several people in Nsambya Village, Kasoda Sub-county, admitted.

Residents informed authorities of the outbreak two months ago, after noticing many cases of a intense skin condition that causing rashes.

Poor sanitary practices like communal practices of bathing in the lake has been blamed for the rising infections.

Villagers are now being encouraged to stop communal sharing, bathe twice a day with antiseptic soap, wash bed clothing and sundry them. Many however struggle to afford laundry bar soap whose cost has more than doubled.
