The winner of the Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency’s supplementary election, held on Saturday, has been declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The winner, Akarachi Amadi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is only 28 years old. The federal constituency returning officer, Prof. Boniface Okoro, announced the results at the collation center for the district, which is located in Nworuibi in Mbaitoli LGA. Amadi received the highest number of votes, with a total of 21,372, while Uche Ogbuagu of the Labour Party, his closest rival, received 18,296 votes.

According to the results, the incumbent and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Henry Nwawuba, received 7,202 votes, while Usmond Ukanacho, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, received 6,681 votes. Chinonso Uba, the candidate of the African Democratic Congress, received 4,100 votes, and Godstime Chukwubuikem, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, received 246 votes.

With the win, Amadi will represent the Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives from May 29, 2023. It is noteworthy that Amadi’s victory has been achieved at such a young age, which according to analysts bodes well for the future of Nigeria’s political arena.
