30 Injured as Two Trains Collide in Tunis

At least 30 people suffered injuries following a head-on collision between two passenger trains in the Tunisian capital, Tunis.

The injured have been transferred to two hospitals for medical care, said Hassen Miaadi, spokesperson for the Tunisian National Railway Company.

According to reports, a passenger train collided with a stationary train near Megrine Riadh station in Tunis.

More than 10 ambulances and several rescue teams were deployed to the site and an investigation was initiated to determine the cause of the collision.

Authorities have however released a statement warning residents to avoid the area around the scene of the accident due to traffic disruptions.

“Disruptions to the rail system in and around Tunis are probable through early Oct. 8. Related transport and business disruptions near the collision site are also likely over the same period due to the emergency response and investigation,” a statement from the authorities said.
