The National Police Service (NPS) has reported 339 murder cases across Kenya from August to October 2024, according to a statement released on Thursday evening.
Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, revealed that this figure shows a small rise compared to the same period in the previous two years.
“A comparative analysis of murder cases reported from August to October for the years 2022-2024 indicates a slight increase. In 2024, a total of 339 murder cases have so far been recorded, compared with 336 cases in 2023 and 341 cases in 2022,” Kanja explained.
Among the notable incidents during this period is the murder of Willis Onyango Ayieko, a Wells Fargo HR Manager. His partially decomposed body was found in a stream in Khwisero and has been transferred to Nairobi for a post-mortem examination.
Another case involves the discovery of a body suspected to belong to missing Wajir MCA, Yusuf Hussein. The body was found in Lake Yahud, but DNA tests later confirmed it was not him. Investigations continue as police work to identify the body and locate the missing MCA.
In Eastleigh, the murders of three family members – Dahabo Daud Said, Amina Abdirashid Dahir, and Nusayba Abdi Mohammed – have caused widespread shock. Their mutilated bodies were discovered at separate locations, and investigations into the killings are still ongoing.
Meanwhile, detectives are also probing the death of taxi driver Victoria Mumbua from Mombasa. Her body was found along the Mai Mahiu-Naivasha Highway, and a suspect is currently in custody.
The police assured the public that efforts are being intensified to bring the perpetrators of these crimes to justice.
