Egypt’s Supreme State Security Prosecution has ordered the detention of 35 individuals, including two women, who had previously been victims of enforced disappearance. The decision, made on Wednesday, followed overnight questioning, and the individuals have now been remanded in custody for 15 days while investigations continue.
The detainees face various charges, including spreading and publishing false news, joining a terrorist group and supporting its objectives, misusing social media, using the internet to promote crimes, and financing and advocating violence.
Among those detained are Marwa Sami Abu Zeid, a journalist and wife of a man serving a life sentence, and Faiza Ahmed Ahmed. Notable among the others are Musab Saber Nasr, who has been forcibly disappeared for over four years, and Abdel Rahman Abada El-Gharbaly, who was missing for nearly 50 days.
