41 Die in D.R Congo Boat Mishap

A boat mishap on Lake Albert in the Democratic Republic of Congo has led to the demise of at least 41 people.

According to Congo’s PANA on Saturday, scores of people died on the lake that connects Uganda to Congo DR in the shipwreck which occurred on Wednesday.

The incident happened close to the Kolokoto Fishing Camp in the Ituri Province of the country.

According to PANA, the traders were on their way to Congo from Mahangi Territory, Runga, Uganda and had boarded the boat which had at least 100 people on board.

The rest of the bodies are still being searched for in the waters.

Strong winds are believed to have caused rumblings in the lake, leading to the capsizing of the boat.

Boat mishaps have been common occurrences in the East African country as most of the boats are dilapidated and often overloaded.

In June, at least 18 people were lost to a boat sinking in Lake Albert.

Lake Albert is the 7th largest in Africa and is Uganda’s second biggest.
