The champions at the 2022 World Cup will go home with $42 million in prize money for their soccer federation.

The runner up in today’s final between France and Argentina will be handed $30 million from a FIFA prize fund of $440 million.

In 2018 when France won the World Cup, the country’s federation got $38 million from FIFA’s $400 million prize fund.

While the players get a good deal from the sums won, the national football federation keeps part of it. France forward Kylian Mbappé is in line to be paid a bonus of $586,000 by France for winning the final, French sports daily L’Equipe reported.

Every national soccer federation gets at least $9 million in prize money for playing at this year’s World Cup, plus $1.5 million for each toward tournament preparation expenses.

Croatia in third place earned $27 million in prize money while Morocco, which ended up in fourth place gets $25 million.

In the past four years, FIFA has raked $7.5 billion in revenue, with most from sponsorship, broadcast deals, plus ticket sales and hospitality revenues.
