The fourth edition of the World Youth Forum (WYF) has kicked off in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt following its postponement due the COVID-19 pandemic. The previous editions of the forum which held in 2017, 2018 and 2019 had youths, government leaders, academic experts, innovators, celebrities and more gather in Sharm El-Sheikh to participate in discussions and panels that were open to all attendees.
The United Nations Commission for Social Development recognized the three previous editions of the World Youth Forum in Egypt as an international platform for discussing contemporary youth issues and their role in achieving the 2030 sustainable development agenda.
The themes of the 2022 edition are post-COVID impacts, climate change, social security, human rights, entrepreneurship, technology, 5G networks, digital transformation, distance learning, the environment, and the future of energy
It will also hold a number of activities, such as the Model United Nations Human Rights Council to discuss issues that fall under the umbrella of human rights, and work alongside other youth to craft a vision that achieves equality, regional stability, peace and development.
The World Youth Forum began as an initiative by a group of young Egyptians at the National Youth Conference with the purpose of engaging in dialogue with young people around the world.
This came to life in 2017 after President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi accepted the initiative to launch the first edition of the WYF (WYF) held in Sharm El-Sheikh in November 2017.
Attendees at this year’s event will learn how to turn a business idea into a start-up and understand the skills needed to be an entrepreneur in a post-COVID world.
The World Youth Theatre will also be held for the third time under the motto ‘Arts and culture are part of development and a human right”, taking into consideration all the necessary precautionary measures against the coronavirus.
