Eight people in South Africa have been killed and six firefighters hospitalised following an explosion in Boksburg on Saturday morning, Ekurhuleni Emergency Management Services (EMS) can confirm.
EMS says a gas tanker got stuck under a bridge and went up in flames. The tanker exploded while the firefighters were trying to extinguish the flames.
EMS spokesperson William Ntladi says the bridge has been completely destroyed.
“So the subway bridge is completely destroyed. Part of the hospital’s casualty department roof has collapsed. We’ve got two houses that are nearby that caught alight”
Gift of the Givers responded to victims of the Boksburg gas tanker explosion.
The tanker is said to belong to Cargo and fleet company Infinite Group based in Sasolburg.
