Several residents of informal settlement in Paarl Drommedaris, Western Cape have been left homeless after a fire gutted 100 informal homes.

Sixty firefighters from Cape Winelands have been battling to stem the fire that has rendered at least 400 people homeless.

Joining the emergency workers are eight fire fighting trucks, and two helicopters battling blazes on the slopes of Paarl Mountain earlier this week.

Humanitarian relief organisation, Gift of the Givers, says they will be visiting the area to offer their assistance on Sunday.

Relief coordinator, Ali Sablay says they’ll be delivering hot meals, blankets, mattresses, water and hygiene packs to the affected families.

Fire crews in Ceres, Western Cape, have spent the night monitoring two fires that broke out in the area. The Cape Winelands District Municipality Spokesperson, Anesca Roodt says both fires were contained.
