The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service has announced the arrest of 90 illegal immigrants suspected of involvement in cybercrimes.
According to the service, the suspects engaged in various levels of fraudulent activities to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians, with the majority identified as Cameroonians.
The arrests were made in collaboration with other security agencies at a hideout in the state.
Rivers State Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mr. YI Abdulmajeed, disclosed the details during a briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. He stated that a total of 94 individuals were apprehended, saying, “Their profiling revealed that 85 of them are Cameroonians, five Chadians, and four Nigerians. Of the 94 people, 74 are males and 20 females.”
The service explained that all 90 foreign nationals had entered the country through unauthorized routes. After interrogation, none of them could present residence permits or valid travel documents.
In addition, two Nigerians from Rivers State, who allegedly provided accommodation for the suspects, were identified.
Abdulmajeed further revealed that the Comptroller General of Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, has directed that legal actions be pursued against the suspects and preparations made for their deportation to their respective countries of origin.
