According to the government’s Crop Estimates Committee (CEC), farmers in South Africa are predicted to harvest 10% less maize in the 2021/2022 season than the previous season.
According to the CEC’s second summer crop projection, the harvest in 2022 will be 14.684 million tonnes, down from 16.315 million tonnes last season.
7.570 million tonnes of white maize will be harvested for human consumption, while 7.115 million tonnes of yellow maize will be harvested for animal feed.
On Monday, South Africa’s Crop Estimates Committee presented its second output prediction for summer crops in 2021-2022, as well as a revised planting area. The data is broken out in the table below.
