Ethiopia is set to repatriate 100000 migrants in Saudi Arabia, amid reports of undocumented citizens in the middle east country.
Senior government officials met the first wave of 498 women and children returns at Addis Ababa’s major airport on Wednesday.
It comes after reports of undocumented migrants being treated inhumanely in the Middle East country, including imprisonment in filthy detention centers.
Over the following 11 months, Ethiopian officials plan to repatriate 100000 migrants.
The administration has been chastised on social media for failing to address the condition of Ethiopian migrants in Saudi Arabia.
It’s uncertain whether the returnees will be supplied with long-term employment opportunities at home.
Returnees have previously gone back to the Middle East after being repatriated due to a lack of enticing local possibilities.
