Nigeria edged closer to qualifying for the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup holding in Brazil in September. The Golden Eaglets defeated Angola 1-0 in a Group A match at the ongoing CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Tanzania yesterday at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The victory came courtesy of an Olusegun Olakunle penalty in the 21st minute after an Angolan handball in the 18 yard box. Angola were reduced to 10 men in the 52nd minute after Jose Cabingano received a second yellow card but the Eaglets were unable to increase the tally despite the numerical advantage.
The win puts the five time world champions in control of Group A, Uganda thrashed Tanzania 3-0, a result which eliminates the hosts.
