Barely seventy two hours ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential screening committee has disqualified 10 of the 23 aspirants seeking the party’s ticket to contest the 2023 general poll.
A former national chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who is chairman of the screening committee stated this on Friday afternoon.
In the meantime, supporters of former President Goodluck Jonathan thronged the party’s headquarters, demanding his adoption as the party’s consensus candidate.
In spite of speculations surrounding his presidential aspiration, Jonathan has not formally declared for president and his name didn’t appear in the official list of those contesting the APC ticket.
He was also absent during the screening of the party’s presidential aspirants.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent remarks after a marathon meeting with APC Governors has provoked debates over the likelihood of a consensus candidate, agreeable to the leadership of the party.
